Welcome aboard for this one-hour immersion on Romania's highest road. In August 2025, we set our wheels on the legendary Transalpina, an asphalt scar that cuts through the crests of the Southern Carpathians for over 148 kilometers. 🛣️ THE STORY OF A LEGENDARY ROAD Nicknamed the "King's Road," the DN67C has a fascinating history. Originally built during the reign of King Charles II, it served as a strategic route through the mountains before being modernized into the driver's paradise we know today. Forget the Transfăgărășan and its crowds: the Transalpina offers a wilder, more rugged, and above all, higher experience. ⛰️ GEOLOGY AND BREATHTAKING LANDSCAPES As you climb, the landscape is transformed. We leave the dense deciduous forests behind and enter a mineral world of schist and granite. It is here, between the Luncile Prigoanei plateau and the summit, that the geology of the Carpathians is most powerfully expressed. We cross the famous Urdele Pass, reaching an altitude of 2,145 meters, where the air thins and the view stretches to infinity across the surrounding peaks. 📊 SOME KEY FIGURES Length: 148 km of pure pleasure (or torture for the brakes!).
