This train already operates with the new ICE 3 units, identified as Class 408. In general they differ from the Class 407 by the interior design and traction motor sound. The ICE 917 also takes the new Wendlingen - Ulm high speed railway between Stuttgart and Ulm, reaching a top speed of 250 km/h. Then it continues on the conventional railway to Augsburg, which at least allows 200 km/h between Dinkelscherben and Westheim. From Augsburg to Munich the ICE can use its own tracks again and reach 230 km/h. Due to short term construction works the train went around 20 minutes after schedule that day.
