MPONDAMALI Arrested as Mayoral Candidate, Not Journalist
By Honester Mshoka Information and Media Permanent Secretary THABO KAWANA has clarified that WILSON MPONDAMALI, recently arrested in Kabwe, was detained in his capacity as a mayoral candidate, not as a journalist. Mr. KAWANA says it is important to refer to Mr. MPONDAMALI in the context of his candidacy, noting that his arrest was related to allegations of inciting violence. Speaking at a press briefing, Mr. KAWANA stated that law enforcement agencies will act according to the law against anyone found to have broken it. He stated that there is no evidence to support claims that the police ignored calls from Mr. MPONDAMALI, describing such reports as unproven. Mr. KAWANA also warned that anyone taking the law into their own hands will face the consequences of their actions.
