The Blue Pond is formed when the Biei River, which flows from Biei Town to Asahikawa, mixes with water containing aluminum, causing the light to reflect off the pond, making it appear blue to our eyes! And the photo that made the Blue Pond so famous is... Matsuo: "It was used as a wallpaper on Apple's Mac." Arata: "What!?" This photo was taken by Kent Shiraishi, a photographer living in Biei, and was used as a wallpaper on Macs in 2012. Since then, the number of international tourists has steadily increased! Biei's classic delicacy: "Japan's best cheese" After enjoying the classic scenery, it's time for some classic food! Matsuo: "We've moved to another location." We arrived at Biei Farm, where approximately 80 cows are pastured and a variety of dairy products are produced and sold from the milk they produce. They sell "Fromage de Biei" here. This is the highest quality cheese, winning the Grand Prix at the Japan Cheese Awards, which determines the best cheese in Japan! Arata: "The colors are different, aren't they?" Matsuo: "Yes, there are two types." "Fromage de Biei" comes in "summer" and "winter" varieties... The cheese that became number one in Japan was "summer." Summer cheese is made from the raw milk of cows that graze on grass. On the other hand, in winter, when snow falls and grazing is impossible, the cows are fed stored grass and milked! Shin, enjoy "Summer," voted the best in Japan! Shin: "Wow! It's so rich! The ingredients are by far the best of any cheese I've ever eaten. It has a milkier flavor than regular cheese. It's so delicious." There's another delicious way to enjoy it... Raclette cheese! Shin: "You don't even need to try it. It's delicious. You can tell without even trying it." Raclette cheese uses the same ingredients as Fromage de Biei, but is aged for a shorter period of three months, giving it a milder flavor! Let's enjoy it luxuriously on toast! Shin: "It's delicious.
