あの日時速300キロで噴石が登山客を襲った 多くの犠牲者を出した御嶽山の「八丁ダルミ」 立ち入り規制が解除 鋼鉄製のシェルターはできたが…

63 people were killed or missing. It's been nearly nine years since the eruption of Mount Ontake, the worst volcanic disaster since the war. Access restrictions have been lifted on Haccho Darumi, a site near the crater that claimed many lives. Volcanic rocks pelted climbers at 300 kilometers per hour... (From viewer-provided footage, September 27, 2014) "It's scary! Wait a minute, what should we do?" "This is dangerous." (Report from cameraman Kazuya Shoji) "This is above Ontake. Smoke can be seen rising from many places." On September 27, 2014, Mount Ontake, a 3,067-meter-high mountain straddling Gifu and Nagano prefectures, erupted. The eruption was caused by a steam explosion caused by magma heating groundwater, sending volcanic rocks pelting climbers at 300 kilometers per hour. 58 people were killed, and 5 were missing... This was the worst volcanic disaster since the war. Just before the nine-year anniversary, new developments occurred on the 29th. (Reporter Yoshida Sho) "It's been nine years since Mt. Ontake's eruption, and as of today, Haccho-Darumi has been open to the public, drawing many visitors to the trailhead." Haccho-Darumi connects the summit of Otaki with the highest peak, Kengamine. Located on the east side of the crater near the fumaroles, this ridge, which claimed many lives, had been closed to the general public since the eruption. However, it was reopened to the public on the 29th after safety measures such as the installation of evacuation shelters were deemed safe. "Collect volcano information before climbing" - Research facility at roadside station At 6:30 AM at Tanohara, the trailhead at an altitude of 2,200 meters, volcanologists handed out pamphlets with warnings at the entrance and urged visitors to climb safely. "We're conducting safety awareness activities, and important notices are posted." One of them is Kim Heung-yoon, a special lecturer at Nagoya University who studies volcanoes. There's a research facility at the foot of Mt. Ontake. The Kiso Town Mt. Ontake Visitor Center, "Sato Terrace Mitake," opened last August at a roadside station in Kiso Town, Nagano Prefecture. The attached research facility constantly monitors earthquakes and volcanic tremors occurring on Mt. Ontake and the surrounding area. (Kim Heung-yoon, special lecturer at Nagoya University) "Please be sure to gather volcano information before climbing. When climbing the mountain, it's important to descend if you notice any unusual behavior, such as a strong smell of volcanic gas or rumblings." On this day, a CBC TV team also headed to "Hachō Darumi"... Many climbers were gathered at the entrance to Haccho-Darumi. (Reporter Yoshida Sho) "We've been climbing the mountain for about two hours. From here on, we'll be in the predicted crater area. The trail is only two to three meters wide and has a steep slope, so it would be difficult to escape if volcanic rocks or other debris fell." We walked along the trail, with rugged rocks beneath our feet. "It's just before 10:00 AM. After about three hours of climbing, we arrived just before Haccho-Darumi. The area beyond this point has been off-limits for about nine years, but it's scheduled to reopen at 10:30 AM." Many climbers were waiting at the top of Otaki, near the entrance to Haccho-Darumi, for the access restrictions to be lifted. And then... (Mayor Koshihara Michihiro, Otaki Village, Nagano Prefecture) "We'll be relaxing the restrictions. Please enjoy your climb safely." The steel shelter is completed. 10:30 AM. The access restrictions were lifted. To ensure safety, Otaki Village urges people to wear helmets and move quickly. And more... (Reporter Yoshida Sho) "These are shelters for protection in the event of an eruption. They can accommodate 30 people, so there are two shelters in total: this one and the one further back, at Haccho Darumi. However, there's no other place to hide, so I'm not sure if these will be enough to protect everyone's lives in the event of an eruption." These two steel evacuation shelters are 2.14 meters high and 2.50 meters wide. I asked Otaki Village Mayor Koshihara if this would be enough to ensure safety in the event of another eruption. (Otaki Village, Nagano Prefecture, Mayor Koshihara Michihiro) "As they say, the more shelters there are, the safer it may be, but there are limitations on where they can be installed, so for the time being we're considering these two." Due to limited flat areas where shelters can be installed, this will remain the case for the time being. "If an eruption were to occur here, it would be difficult to survive." A hiker visiting to learn about safety measures said: (Climber) "The families of the deceased may have wanted to search a little longer, but we (climbers) also wanted to use this route, so it's hard to say." "Tears came to my eyes. There are still people who haven't been found. (Nine years ago) I happened to be planning to climb on the day of the eruption, but my co...
