Deep Purple featuring Ritchie Blackmore on Guitar - Smoke On The Water
Released in 1972 on the album Machine Head, "Smoke on the Water" features one of rock's most famous guitar riffs, written and played by Deep Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmore. The song was inspired by a real-life fire at the Montreux Casino in Switzerland December 1971. The track was recorded by the Mark 2 line up of the band: Ian Gillan Jon Lord Ritchie Blackmore Roger Glover Ian Paice "Smoke on the Water" was a global smash hit and is considered to be the quintessential rock anthem.
