This arrangement is inspired by MuseScore username "TanSG's" version. This song from Disney's 1998 film "Lion King 2: Simba's Pride" is called "We Are One," and it has been a personal favorite of mine for MANY years for many reasons. I'm so happy to bring it to life for you all today on Father's Day! I wanted to really create an intimate, gentle, anthem-like feel to the arrangement. (And I LITERALLY finished arranging/played it for the first time last night at 9:45p -- PHEW! Just under the wire!). If you'll permit me to be a bit emotional, I'd like to share with you all why there is so much joy and emotion on my face in this recording: 1) Thinking of my father, who - just like Simba in this film - isn't perfect, but has done his utmost to be a wise, compassionate, encouraging, and honorable man. From watching Xena, Lord of the Rings, and Chronicles of Narnia together as a wee kiddo, to now in my 30's calling him up a month ago in need of a "father-daughter talk" and ugly-sobbing on my bed while he counseled me to "remember who I am" and that "it's okay to be kind to myself," after YEARS of ceaselessly encouraging me in my career and personal life..... Daddy, I love you. Thank you for always being "my cheerleader." I won't say more on YouTube since it's a public forum, but there are so many emotions. 2). All of my jewelry came from South African local artists!! I had the privilege of a lifetime of being able to visit Kruger Park a few years ago! 3). I'd like to share a quote from this movie with you, and give some context for it [SPOILERS]. The Pride that came from Scar have been exiled to the Shadow Lands for Scar's treachery from the original film. However, Simba's daughter Kiara and Scar's adopted son Kovu have formed a "Romeo and Juliet" romance, and both have suffered great emotional backlash from their families for it. After initially running away together, Kiara gently tells Kovu, "Our place is with our Pride. If we run away, they'll be divided forever." They return to stop a ferocious fight between both Prides, and Kiara confronts Simba face-to-face. Simba: Stay out of this. Kiara: A wise king once told me, "We are one." I didn't understand him then. Now I do. Simba: But... they... Kiara: Them? Us? Look at them! They are us. What differences do you see? This moment has always struck me as impactful, and it's resonating again for me in this time in our lives. In this time of great divide, hatred, and pain, many wounds are being dealt. We all know these issues aren't easily resolved, but I wish to offer the words to anyone listening: we ultimately want the same things: happiness, safety, liberty, and justice. We might disagree about how to get there, but there is honor to be found in each of us. It is not a weakness to acknowledge that we are not enemies, but rather allies trying to achieve the same thing through different means. We can disagree PASSIONATELY and VEHEMENTLY, but let us always keep dignity and respect at the helm when we choose our words and actions.  We are more than any government, past or present. We are the People of the United States of America. We love our communities. We help those in need. We defend those without defense. We hug our neighbors, even if they don't look or act like us. We have cookouts. Our kids play safely and securely in the street, and we honor the humanity and sacrifices of all those who came before us. We simultaneously cherish the best of our history while imagining a better future. We Are One.   4). Last but not least: It's still June! HAPPY PRIDE! We are all family, and you are seen, heard, and you are loved. ANYWAY! Excuse me while I find a box of tissues because I made MYSELF cry while typing this.
