The Longines Live Alpine Data: Episode 1 – Saving seconds on a jump

In the beginning of the season in Sölden, the Swiss watch brand Longines unveiled a major breakthrough in timekeeping technology and data handling for alpine skiing: the Longines Live Alpine Data system. This great stride will officially be inaugurated during the 2017 Alpine World Ski Championships in St. Moritz, of which Longines is the Official Partner and Timekeeper. This technological innovation consists of a chip attached to the skier’s boot, equipped with a radar and motion sensors. The sensors will enable the real-time and continuous measurement of the athlete’s speed, acceleration and deceleration, the time it takes to reach 100km/h and an analysis of jumps. The latter is at the heart of the first out of four Longines Live Alpine Data system explanatory videos, unveiled today in the context of the FIS Alpine World Cup in Val Gardena. This first video, titled “Saving seconds on a jump”, highlights the importance of the data generated by the Longines Live Alpine Data technology in helping athletes analyse their jump performances with ever-increasing precision. It shows a comparison between two athletes, including Longines Ambassador of Elegance Aksel Lund Svindal, as they jump over the famous Hundschopf (Dog's Head), during the Lauberhorn downhill race in Wengen.
