हिंदू मान्यता के अनुसार यह माना जाता है कि देवता इस झील में स्नान करते थे, इसलिए यह नाम पड़ा। स्थानीय लोगों के अनुसार यह भी कहा जाता था कि इस झील का निर्माण भीम ने किया था, जो पांडवों में सबसे मजबूत था, अपनी प्यास बुझाने के लिए और सबसे बुद्धिमान युधिष्ठर ने भीम को यह झील बनाने का सुझाव दिया था । The lake is known for its wide 360° panorama. Mountains like Chaukhamba, Nilkantha, Bandarpunch, Kedar Range, and Kalanag can be viewed from here.
