HIGH STREET to BRIDGETON CENTRAL branch line, by Blue Train, driver's-eye view, July 1983
A NEW PROFESSIONALLY-SCANNED VERSION with ORIGINAL LIVE IN-CAMERA SOUNDTRACK REINSTATED FOR THE FIRST TIME of this ultra-rare and now very popular 8mm movie! This edition of my 8mm film, which includes the entire (and now long-dismantled) 1-mile branch from HIGH STREET to Glasgow's former BRIDGETON CENTRAL terminus in both directions, now looks even better than before and, with its original magnetic soundtrack reinstated, now brings the old line fully back to life. After some bonus shots at HYNDLAND STATION, an original 303 Blue Train takes your outward driver's-eye journey from QUEEN STREET(low-level) STATION, down into BRIDGETON. Then a newer 314 train, with it's very distinct and soothing sound, makes your return trip back up to HIGH STREET. Every sound can now be clearly heard and enjoyed, including plenty of un-welded rail-joins, coach creaks, and audible warning signals, as the trains swing around on the elderly rail tracks! For those unfamiliar with the film or its topic, this short branch line from High Street Station had already closed to passengers in 1979, when a new through-station at Bridgeton had re-opened on the also newly-reopened Argyle Line that passes through Central (low-level) Station. Watch out, in both directions, for entire platform remains of the even-rarer GALLOWGATE CENTRAL STATION, which had closed to passengers as early as 1917, and, on your return journey, the twin tunnel entrance of a long-disused spur that had joined up with a still-open cross-rail over the River Clyde, to allow trains from north of the river here to access the city's south-side rail network.
