The boat is the Harumorimaru at Nagai Port. I'm using the DAIWA 26 Seaborg 500J, which was just released in January. Equipped with the "TOUGH MEGA MONSTER" MAGMAX-G motor! Lightweight at 750g, it features a new aluminum jog power lever. On this day, I headed straight for the offshore shallows and fished at depths of 190-260m. The fish were biting early in the morning and it felt good, but the squid were catching at a lower depth. I used an 18cm direct-attached rig, but those using 7-hook swing rigs were doing great in the morning! I got 4-5 hookups in a row. Since the majority of the hookups involved a single rotation, I think the key was to not be late in casting and not miss the bite immediately after hitting the bottom, but I wasn't able to get multiple hookups, which is something I need to work on in the future. DAIWA's new Seaborg 500J has a diagonally cut jog dial, making it very easy to use. You can get a better feel for how it works by watching the DAIWA boat front line video linked above. Tempting the squid near the bottom and getting them to hook properly is still a challenge for me, so I'll keep working hard. The new Seaborg 500J has the fastest drop and reeling speed in DAIWA's history, and it really is fast! I was able to experience it for myself. It's a reliable and powerful ally when fishing for mid-deep sea to deep sea squid (spear squid) like today.
