RAILA FINALLY CALLS FOR REFERENDUM

After a long period of silence, former prime minister has finally stated his position in regards to having a referendum. He was speaking during the funeral service of the late Kibra Member of parliament Ken Okoth. For many years, it has been suspected that Raila has always wanted the constitution to be changed. Initially it was seen as a way for him to re-enter government as a prime minister, but now that he is aiming for the president's seat, many wonder how a referendum will benefit him. There have been many calls for a referendum, the biggest being the drive by former presidential aspirant Ekuro Aukot, which is dubbed 'Punguza Mzigo'. Raila has howerver seemed to not support Ekuro Aukot, and this means that if the constitution is to be changed according to Raila, then he will come up with his own terms. His statements are seen to be heavily influenced by his recent handshake with President Uhuru Kenyatta. His calls for a referendum did not go well with William Ruto and his supporters, and it will be interesting to see how Ruto will respond to Raila's statements.
