A l'aube du dernier jour - Francis Kleynjans

Franics Kleynjans's "A l'aube du dernier jour" (At the Dawn of the Last Day) is an intense, psychological piece. It represents a prisoner condemned to die. Divided into two parts (The Wait and The Dawn), it begins in the prison cell and takes us through the prisoner being led to the execution scaffold. According to the composer, the repeated idée fixe represents the prisoner's inescapable obsession with death while the tonal wanderings display the thoughts that may pass through one's brain as they prepare for the unkown.
