🚨 A quarter of a million people fall ill in Germany alone. Every year! Sepsis is often underestimated, yet it affects so many people. But what causes sepsis? 🦠 Sepsis always develops from an infection that the immune system cannot contain quickly enough. This infection can be caused by viruses, bacteria, fungi, or parasites. 🫁 At 40%, the most common cause of sepsis is a respiratory infection! But urinary tract infections or abdominal infections are also the trigger in many cases of sepsis. 👵 Everyone with a weakened immune system has an increased risk of sepsis because their body is not as able to fight infections.
