My Childhood Pal by Steve Flemming

My Childhood Pal" is a nostalgic reflection on friendship, growing up, and the memories that stay with us long after the years have passed. Through heartfelt storytelling and a warm folk-country spirit, the song looks back on the bond between two young friends who shared adventures, dreams, and the simple moments that helped shape their lives. Filled with gratitude, remembrance, and a touch of longing, it celebrates the lasting impact of childhood friendships and the special people who remain part of us no matter how much time goes by. Song Written and Produced by Steve Flemming My Childhood Pal 3/28/19 6/25/26 [INSTRUMENTAL] It’s been ten years now since Billy died Took his life; with a sharpened knife He couldn’t handle the city lights Alone at night; with pain inside [INSTRUMENTAL] The factory is just a memory Picked up one day; and went overseas Left Billy and his ol’ buddies Out of work; and out of means [INSTRUMENTAL] Change was made in technology While we craved for community But all we got were policies That helped the rich in society Some days I wonder if Billy was here Would he laugh at the price of beer? We always loved our weekends here Bowling, girls and bars we’d clear But this town; is not the same The old alley has gone away A big box store took its place I’ve yet to go; well perhaps today? And it’s been ten years now since Billy died Took his life; with a sharpened knife He couldn’t handle the city lights Alone at night; with pain inside [INSTRUMENTAL] The town is now; twice the size Condo’s built in record time I took a night class on the side I hope a job will soon be mine Billy, friend; if you hear me now It’s been so long; since I wasn’t down But will I turn this all around? Oh how I miss my childhood pal [INSTRUMENTAL] Steve Flemming Closing words by Steve: If these songs have meant something to you, would you consider helping me keep this musical journey going with a small donation?
