Anthony B & Chezidek join forces at Irie Ites Studio for a special dubplate version of “Better Haffi Come” on the legendary Billie Jean Riddim, paying tribute to Bobby “Digital” Dixon, Digital B and the roots of modern reggae. This exceptional session brought together two powerful Jamaican voices for the first time inside the Irie Ites studio. Anthony B, the Original Fireman, is known worldwide for his conscious fire, revolutionary lyrics and classics such as “Fire Pon Rome” and “Raid Di Barn”. Chezidek, from St. Ann, Jamaica, has built his name through roots reggae anthems such as “Leave De Trees”, “Call Pon Dem” and “Inna Di Road”. “Better Haffi Come” was originally produced by Frenchie for Maximum Sound, one of the labels that helped inspire Irie Ites to produce Jamaican music with authenticity, respect and deep knowledge of the culture. Frenchie’s work showed that producers from France could build strong, serious and respected bridges with Jamaican artists, musicians and producers. For this Irie Ites dubplate, Anthony B and Chezidek revisit “Better Haffi Come” over the mythical Billie Jean Riddim, produced by Bobby “Digital” Dixon for Digital B. The idea came naturally during a memorable studio vibe and was suggested by legendary Jamaican deejay U Brown, who was present during the session. This version is also a tribute to Bobby Digital, whose Digital B productions helped shape the foundations of modern reggae and opened the way for a new generation of artists. His Billie Jean Riddim remains one of those timeless instrumentals that connects dancehall, roots reggae, conscious lyrics and sound system culture. The connection runs deep for Irie Ites: the label also worked around rare and unreleased Digital B material, including Garnet Silk’s legendary “Bless Me” on the Billie Jean Riddim, which Irie Ites had the privilege to repress exclusively in 2008 amongst others after the tune had never been released on 45 before.
