Aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth goes for repairs in Scotland ⚓️ 🇬🇧
Aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth departs for drydock in Scotland after a propeller shaft issue was discovered just ahead of deployment. The first warship in the Queen Elizabeth-class of aircraft carriers and the flagship of the Royal Navy was due to depart for NATO Exercise Steadfast Defender. An issue was discovered with a propeller shaft coupling and the departure was cancelled. HMS Prince of Wales stepped up for the training exercise instead. The aircraft carrier departed His Majesty's Naval Base Portsmouth and will now be drydocked in Rosyth, Fife, Scotland for repairs. This comes after HMS Prince of Wales had a seperate propeller shaft issue in 2022, requiring HMS Queen Elizabeth to fill in for a deployment to New York. The two carrier capability is designed to work this way. Exercise Steadfast Defender is the largest NATO exercise to be held since the Cold War. Over 90,000 troops are participating with over 1,200 combat vehicles, over 80 aircraft and over 50 naval assets from all 31 allies and NATO partner, Sweden.
