It was also the subject of much praise. At the time, it featured a more modern design and a more up-to-date engine than its competitor, the Honda CG 125 Titan. The project proved to be a success. In a short time, it became the best-selling model in Yamaha's lineup. It maintains this position to this day, as well as being the fourth best-selling motorcycle in the country, according to data from Abraciclo (Brazilian Association of Manufacturers of Motorcycles, Mopeds, Scooters, Bicycles and Similar Vehicles). And the numbers are impressive: since its launch, sales have registered continuous growth, totaling 517,413 units sold between March 2000 and February of this year. Last year alone, 109,036 YBR 125s hit the streets. Mechanical Reliability The model's great advantage lies in the economy and reliability of its single-cylinder, 124.3 cm³ engine, with two valves, a single overhead camshaft, and air cooling. According to the company, it was chosen by all the brand's subsidiaries worldwide as the most compact, robust, and economical engine; the best that can be made at this cost. Capable of generating a maximum power of 12.5 hp at 7,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 1.19 kgf.m at 6,500 rpm, it is the ideal engine for those who want a motorcycle for transportation or as a work tool. Especially due to its fuel economy—its consumption is above 30 km/l. Complete package While not impressive, the engine's performance is at least sufficient to get ahead of cars when the traffic light turns green and keep up with traffic on fast-moving avenues. The "E" version, tested, also features the comfort of electric start, but without the safety of a front disc brake. In addition to this version, the YBR 125 "K", with kick start and drum brakes, and the top-of-the-line "ED", with electric start and front disc brake, are also available for sale. All are carbureted. However, the YBR 125 manufactured in China (based on the Brazilian design) and sold in Europe has already adopted electronic fuel injection. For now, Yamaha Brazil has not yet commented on whether or not to introduce the system to the national market. The five-speed gearbox is well-spaced, and the shifts are precise and smooth. Furthermore, the riding position is comfortable and allows for easy cornering and changes of direction, making it an agile motorcycle for urban traffic. Its chassis follows the standard for motorcycles in this category. The diamond-type frame features telescopic forks at the front and a twin-shock system at the rear. The "E" version is equipped with drum brakes, front and rear. Although they do the job, in emergency situations the lack of a front disc brake is noticeable, as it is only available on the more expensive version. Another positive point for the model is the controls; easy to operate and complete, with a highlight being the high-beam flasher (left handlebar). The instrument panel features the basics: speedometer, odometer, fuel gauge, indicator lights for neutral, high beam, and turn signals. #YBR125 #Yamahaybr
