A food truck stands all alone on the side of a deserted road. One might wonder if anyone would actually seek out a place like this, but contrary to expectations, customers keep coming in. This is the first Korean food truck to open in Switzerland. "We can do simple dishwashing here. Here is the rice cooker, and we are boiling tteokbokki. This is where we cut the pancakes. Jang Yu-seong, who has always enjoyed cooking and wanted to open a restaurant, spent a long time persuading his mother, who worked at a large restaurant, to open this Korean food truck. This food truck was born from the meeting of a son's passion and a mother's expertise. From fried chicken and tteokbokki to kimchi pancakes and bulgogi... a variety of dishes are whipped up quickly, even within the truck's cramped cooking space. I wanted to introduce Korean food there, so I’ve been practicing here for the festival. It’s been exactly a week now, and I think it’s going well.] The food truck started with the belief that eating out might be better than dining in restaurants during the COVID-19 pandemic, and with the desire to spread Korean food to every corner of the festival grounds. As this is the first Korean food truck introduced in Switzerland, there were many concerns about whether it would succeed, but it is receiving much more love than expected. People even travel from a region an hour away by car to eat tteokbokki after seeing the promotional videos posted on social media. The popularity of Korean culture, such as K-dramas and K-pop, is also playing a role in the food truck gaining such attention. [Jang Yu-seong / Food Truck Operator: There aren't many Korean restaurants yet, so I thought there was an opportunity. In the past, people didn't really know much about Korean culture or Korea itself. But these days, everyone knows a little bit about Korean culture, so I think we are receiving much more recognition.] Taking advantage of the mobility of food trucks, they operate in one spot for about a week and announce their next destination via social media. They also participated in the Bern Expo Food Festival, showcasing various dishes such as fried chicken, bulgogi, and buchimgae, gaining popularity. [Customer: I think it's really cool. The people are friendly, and the atmosphere has a pull to it, so we really bought and ate a lot of different things. The food was really delicious, too. Chicken appears so often in Korean dramas, and seeing people eat it with their hands made me really want to try it.
