Let's explore the depths of it in the video. Deep within the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, in a meditation chamber, Yoda sits alone and feels the galaxy shift beneath him. The Force moves through him constantly, a presence as familiar as breathing, but this is something else entirely. A tremor rolls through his awareness and seizes every nerve in his ancient body. It floods his mind with light, heat, and the image of twin suns burning over an endless desert. The vergence hits him with a power he has never encountered in all his centuries of life, and for the first time in living memory, the Grand Master of the Jedi Order gasps aloud in his own meditation chamber. He brings his discovery to a handful of trusted Council members that same evening. The vergence is real. It is specific. And the Force has shown it to him alone. Mace Windu argues against it, insisting that the Grand Master should not travel alone to the Outer Rim on the strength of a single vision. Yoda listens, nods respectfully, and leaves for Tatooine the following morning. He finds the boy in Watto's junkyard on the outskirts of Mos Espa, crouched over the exposed engine housing of a moisture vaporator. Seven-year-old Anakin Skywalker works with his small hands buried in corroded wiring and cracked power couplings, his tongue pressed between his teeth in concentration while Tatooine's twin suns bake the sand around him. The Force surrounds the child with an intensity that has to make Yoda steady himself. Raw power radiates from Anakin in waves that should be terrifying, and yet the boy uses none of it consciously. He simply works, patiently rebuilding a machine. Yoda watches him for nearly an hour before approaching. He watches Anakin fix the vaporator, carry it across the street on his thin shoulders, and refuse the handful of credits the grateful family tries to press into his palm. The boy is a slave who owns nothing and has every reason to hoard whatever small kindness the galaxy offers him, but he gives it away without hesitation. He finds Shmi that evening in the small quarters she shares with Anakin behind Watto's shop, and he sits with her at the narrow table where she feeds her son every night. He explains what he has senses in the boy, what the Force is, and what training at the Jedi Temple would mean for Anakin's future. Shmi listens to every word with careful attention, and she asks questions that Yoda answers honestly, holding nothing back about the distance, the years, or the difficulty of the path ahead. Only after she gives her blessing, with tears already forming in her eyes and her hand resting on Anakin's shoulder, does Yoda walk into Watto's shop the following afternoon and begin the negotiation for the boy's freedom. And when the time comes to leave, Yoda stands before Shmi in the doorway of her modest home and makes her a promise that he will return for her as well. Shmi holds her son's face in her hands, tears running silently down her cheeks, and tells Anakin to be brave and to remember where he came from. The Council chamber erupts the moment Yoda presents the boy. Twelve Masters sit in their elevated chairs while a seven-year-old slave child stands in the center of the room, and the arguments begin before Yoda has finished speaking. Windu(firm): "The boy loves his mother. He fears losing her. These are precisely the attachments that lead to suffering, and suffering leads to the dark side. We have a thousand years of precedent, Master Yoda." Yoda(calm, unwavering): "A thousand years of precedent, we have. A thousand years of slowly losing our connection to the living Force, we also have. Coincidence, that is not." The debate rages for hours. Ki-Adi-Mundi supports Windu. Plo Koon remains cautiously neutral. And then Qui-Gon Jinn, who has been listening from the gallery, steps forward and speaks. Qui-Gon(passionate): "We teach our younglings to release their emotions into the Force, and we call it peace. But what we've actually created is a generation of Jedi who cannot form meaningful bonds with the people they're sworn to protect. Master Yoda is right. Compassion is the core of our Order, and somewhere along the way we confused compassion with detachment." #starwars #starwarswhatif #whatif
