That's why we at Agro Integração have brought you this content in a practical and straightforward way. Among the pests are: Diabrotica speciosa (Pinworm Larva): The immature stages of the pest are found in the soil. The eggs are laid at the base of the plant, near the roots. They are whitish with a black head and abdomen apex. The adult is greenish-yellow, hence the name "green-yellow beetle" or "patriot beetle". The most characteristic symptom of affected plants is the curved shape they develop. Cutworm (Agrotis ipsilon) Cutworms are caterpillars of the genera Agrotis, Anicla, and Peridroma, named for the way they choose their shape when touched. They are nocturnal pests that shelter in the soil during the day and attack newly transplanted or newly germinated plants at night. Fall Armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda) It is one of the main pests of corn, causing significant losses, and is also found in sorghum crops. The fall armyworm penetrates the stalk or whorl of the plant, creating galleries and consuming the plant's leaves, causing a symptom known as "dead heart," which occurs due to damage to the plant's growing point, in addition to leaving it with little leaf area. This caterpillar can cause yield reductions of 17% to 55.6%. Elasmopalpus lignosellus (Elasmopalpus lignosellus) The elasmopalpus caterpillar, along with the fall armyworm, has become one of the main pests of corn crops in field conditions. It has been observed that this pest occurs more frequently in sandy soils and during dry periods after the first rains. It has also been problematic for crops in soils under cerrado vegetation, especially in the first year of cultivation. The damage is varied, but due to the attack, the central leaves die first, a symptom known as "dead heart". Stem borer (Diatrea saccharalis) The caterpillars of Diatrea saccharalis measure about 22 mm to 25 mm in length, and have a brown head and a whitish or yellowish body with several dark spots. They can affect roots, stems, and ears. In high infestations, an attack by this insect can cause losses of up to 21% in production. When attacking small plants or the whorl, they cause anything from holes in the leaves to the death of the growing point. Brown Stink Bug (Euschistus heros) Green Belly Stink Bug (Dichelops furcatus) These are sucking pests that can begin their attacks when the plant is still young, thus causing damage to the conformation of leaf development, even causing whorl curling or even "dead heart," where, in this case, the main stink bug that causes this damage is the Green Belly. In the reproductive phase, both stink bugs may be present, reducing productivity and even, in the case of seeds, the germination power and vigor of the future plants in question. Corn Leafhopper The corn leafhopper (Dalbulus maidis) is another pest known for transmitting diseases to crops, with pale stunt (spiroplasma) and red stunt (phytoplasma) being the most common. Its typical symptoms are leaves with whitish, yellowish, or reddish stripes, sometimes acquiring a purplish hue. If tolerant hybrids are not used, a 100% loss of the area can occur, as the plants die because they cannot transport their nutrients.
