How the Parthian Empire Humiliated Rome and Then Vanished from History

The Parthian Empire — the ancient power so dangerous even Rome could never break it. For five hundred years, along a single river, legion after legion marched east and legion after legion was destroyed, and the border never moved. These were the horse-lords of the Iranian steppe — the Parthians — and almost no one remembers their name. In this documentary we tell the complete story of the Parthian Empire from its origins as a nomadic tribe called the Parni in 247 BC, to its final fall in 224 AD. From the founding of the Arsacid dynasty and its uneasy conquest of a proud Zoroastrian homeland, to the campaigns of Mithridates I that seized Babylon and turned the heirs of Alexander the Great into subjects, to the invention of a new kind of warfare — the horse archer and the armored cataphract — that no army in the ancient world had an answer for, to the humiliation of Rome at the Battle of Carrhae, where the richest man in the Republic marched forty thousand men to their deaths and lost his own head to a stage in a Greek tragedy, to five centuries of unbroken war along the Euphrates that neither empire could ever truly win, to the empire's final collapse not at the hands of Rome, but at the hands of its own Persian successors, who rewrote history itself to erase five hundred years of Parthian rule from memory. This is the story of a civilization that held a superpower to a draw for half a millennium, built a hidden Hellenistic court behind a Persian throne, funded its armies with the wealth of the Silk Road, and was ultimately erased so thoroughly that its own descendants forgot it ever existed. The full story of Parthia has not yet been told. This is where it begins. ⏱ A note on sources: This documentary is based on historical research and archaeological findings about the Parthian Empire. #Cannae #HannibalBarca #RomanHistory #PunicWars #MilitaryHistory #AncientWarfare #BattleOfCannae #Carthage #EpicHistory #historydocumentary #parthia #parthianempire #ancienthistory #romanempire #historydocumentary #parthians #persianhistory #ancientcivilizations #ancientrome #militaryhistory #persia #battleofcarrhae #crassus #ancientpersia #silkroad #cataphracts #historydocumentary #lostempires #ancientcivilizations #iranhistory #romevsparthia #ancientwarfare #sasanianempire #worldhistory #lostempires #forgottenhistory #forgottenempires #hiddenhistory #untoldhistory #historymystery #ancientcivilizations #empiresoftheworld #historyunknown #riseandfallofempires #riseandfall #fyp #foryou #trending #archaeology #archaeologicaldiscovery #worldcivilizations #ancientempires #bronzeage #ironage #historicalfacts #RomanEmpire #AncientRome #Rome #RomanHistory #RomanArmy #RomanLegion #FallOfRome #RomanMilitary #JuliusCaesar #RomanRepublic #History #AncientHistory #Documentary #WorldHistory #HistoryDocumentary #Educational #HistoryFacts #HistoryLovers #HistoryBuff #HistoryChannel #LearnHistory #DidYouKnow #historynerds
