Unheralded Victory: The Battle of Wau Jan - Feb 1943
The Battle of Wau is one of World War Two's forgotten engagements. One of the Pacific War's most interesting battles, at Wau the Australian Army and the Japanese Okabe Detachment fought a desperate battle for control of the airstrip, the only way in or out of the Bulolo Valley. This documentary examines the strategic background, the commanders, the forces and the battle, illuminating one of the Australian Army's great, and all but forgotten, victories. The first of many triumphs in 1943, Wau marked the end of Japanese offensive operations in the New Guinea campaign.
