Elim Church Choir sings "Takwaba Uwaba Nga Yesu" – All Is Grace School, Ndola

This video was recorded during our visit to Ndola, Zambia, and features the church choir singing the Bemba worship song "Takwaba Uwaba Nga Yesu" ("There's No One Like Jesus"). The choir sang this song immediately before a talk I gave to the congregation and school community during our visit. It was one of several occasions on which we heard this beloved song, including in Mr Frank's classroom at All Is Grace School and again on our final Sunday in Zambia. The church is currently temporarily meeting on the grounds of All Is Grace School while it develops its own facilities. Although the school and church are distinct organizations, they share a close relationship within the local community. All Is Grace School serves children from the surrounding communities of Minsundu and Chipulukusu in Ndola's Copperbelt Province. Many families face significant economic challenges, yet visitors are often struck by the joy, hospitality, and sense of community found there. Songs such as "Takwaba Uwaba Nga Yesu" are more than music. In Zambia's rich oral culture, songs help carry language, memory, values, and identity across generations. Hearing this song sung by children, worshippers, and community members of different ages illustrates the important role that music plays in community life. After returning to the United States, I discovered recordings of this same song by members of the Zambian diaspora, including musicians who themselves grew up in Ndola. It was a reminder of how music can connect people across generations, continents, and communities.
