YOUR VOICE STILL MATTERS YOUR STORY STILL SHINES LIP SYNC

Why I Wrote This Song I wrote “Your Voice Still Matters” because getting older changes things in ways people do not always see. Sometimes the hardest part is not the big medical word. It is the small daily thing. A phone button. A tiny screen. A video that will not stop. A hand that does not move the way it used to. A moment of pressure when you know what you want to do, but your fingers will not obey fast enough. I have neuropathy in my hands. That means I do not always have the control I once had. When I get flustered, I can hit the wrong button, or hit too many buttons, or take longer than someone else thinks I should. It may look simple from the outside. It is not simple when you are the one trying to make your hands work. I am also getting older. I am a disabled veteran. I am 100% disabled by the VA. I do not say that for sympathy. I say it because it is part of my real life. I am still here. I am still creating. I am still learning. I am still trying to stay connected to my family, my friends, and the community around me. This song came from that place. It is about older residents at the Armed Forces Retirement Home learning that they can talk to their phones instead of struggling to type. It is about using ChatGPT and voice tools as helpers, not as replacements for people. A phone can help write a message. It can help organize a thought. It can help someone remember a question. It can make a rough sentence clearer and kinder. But the deeper message is not about technology. The deeper message is this: a person’s voice still matters, even when their hands are slower, even when their memory slips, even when their family gets impatient, even when the world moves faster than they do. I dedicate this song to my son, Chris. I know he may not always understand my videos, my songs, or why I keep making them. I know he may get frustrated with the technology, the noise, or the timing. But underneath all of it, I want him to understand something important: I am not trying to annoy anyone. I am trying to keep my voice alive. The songs I write about the Armed Forces Retirement Home are not just videos on a phone. They are memories. They are stories. They are proof that people here are still living, laughing, helping, remembering, and mattering. “Your Voice Still Matters” is for every older person who still has something to say. It is for the resident who cannot type well anymore. It is for the veteran who needs help finding the right words. It is for the parent who wants their grown child to be patient. It is for the family member who may not realize that aging is not laziness, stubbornness, or carelessness. Sometimes it is pain. Sometimes it is neuropathy. Sometimes it is fear of making a mistake. Sometimes it is simply being 78 years old and doing your best with a phone that seems to change every time you touch it. I wrote this song because I still have stories to tell. I wrote it because the residents around me still have stories to tell. I wrote it because technology, when used kindly, can help older people stay connected. Most of all, I wrote it because your voice does not stop mattering just because your hands get slower.
