Henry's family couldn't boast of a large income. Henry Royce was born the fifth child of James Royce, an ordinary miller working in a rented mill. Their financial situation was so dire that they were forced to leave their home and move to London in search of a better life. Of course, his father was the family's main breadwinner, and he found a fairly comfortable job in the capital, but after only a year at the new school, Henry was forced to grow up. As it happened, in 1872, Henry's father died, forcing the boy to earn money by delivering newspapers and telegrams... He was only nine years old at the time.
