The Brass Ring - Theme From A Summerplace

If ever the music of a movie became more popular than the movie itself, then surely Max Steiner's "Theme From A Summerplace" must be it. Written by Steiner in 1959 for the movie "A Summer place" the song meanwhile has been covered by an array of artists : Cliff Richard, Julie London and Andy Williams are just a few of the many vocalists who included the song in their repertoire. As far as instrumental versions are concerned, there is, without any doubt, one particular version that "conquered the world" and that of course is the one by Percy Faith and His Orchestra. Not only did Faith win a Grammy Award for this production, the rendition also became the instrumental hit that remained at the no-1 position in the Billboard Hot 100 for the longest period. of time. Percy Faith recorded another two versions of the theme, namely one in 1969 (female chorus) and the final one in 1976 (disco version). Here, Phil Bodner and his Brass Ring present a jazzy and playful version of this famous theme and though many orchestral versions never were any real competition for Percy Faith's release, this cute version is worth a listen (or more :) for sure. The brass counterpart set against the lead sax is just wonderful - combined with the solid bass sound that can be heard this eventually results into a very nice arrangement.
