Mid shot of Taur Matan Ruak the campaign STORYLINE Francisco Guterres "Lu Olo" and Taur Matan Ruak passed through to Round 2 of the East Timor national eletion on Thursday, with the National Election Commission (CNE) announcing candidate "Lu-Olo" had garnered 133,635 votes or 28.76 per cent of the total votes cast. Despite the win, however, "Lu-Olo" will still compete with candidate Taur Matan Ruak, who came second with 119,462 votes or 25.71 per cent. With this result, Guterres and Taur Matan Ruak reserve the right to enter the second round of national elections to determine who succeeds the current President of East Timor, Jose Ramos-Horta. The second round of the presidential election has been scheduled for 16 April 2012. There were 12 candidates running for president.
