In addition to field exploration, we present the broader historical context of the site. ________________________________________ 🧱 Bunkers in Ocieka – what were they really like? The bunkers visible today in the Ocieka forests were built between 1942 and 1944 as training ground infrastructure, not frontline support. These included: • observation and protective shelters, • artillery range maintenance facilities (Schussbahn I and II), • training stations, often disguised as civilian buildings. Approximately 17 concrete structures have been preserved in the field, forming part of the western sector of the training ground – Artillerieschießplatz Ocieka. ________________________________________ 🧭 SS-Truppenübungsplatz "Heidelager" – historical context The Heidelager training ground operated from 1940 to 1944, covering an area of ​​approximately 30,000–35,000 square meters. hectares in the area of ​​today's towns of Pustków, Blizna, Ocieka, Niwiska, and the vicinity of Dębica. It was the central training center of the Waffen-SS, comprising: • an artillery range, • barracks and storage facilities, • a V-2 rocket testing center in Blizna, • and a labor and extermination camp in Pustków. Jewish, Polish, and Soviet prisoners, held in inhumane conditions, were used to build the infrastructure. It is estimated that 15,000–20,000 people passed through the Pustków camp, of whom at least 5,000 died from starvation, disease, executions, and forced labor. ________________________________________ Various military formations of the Third Reich trained at the Heidelager training ground, including: • German Waffen-SS units, • elements of the 14th Waffen-SS Grenadier Division "Galizien," • police and auxiliary units, • temporarily also Wehrmacht and Luftwaffe units as part of artillery tests. ⚠️ Important: All Waffen-SS formations were deemed criminal organizations after the war by the International Military Tribunal in Nuremberg. Some units trained at this training ground were later linked to war crimes and repression against civilians. ________________________________________ The purpose of this material is to: ✔️ show the real remnants of World War II, ✔️ present historical facts based on sources, ✔️ pay tribute to the victims of the Nazi system, ✔️ counteract myths and historical simplifications.
