Second-generation agricultural bio-inputs are no longer simply “good microbes” in a pretty bottle. Now we're talking about RNAi, microbial metabolites, insecticidal proteins, functional consortia, advanced formulations, and a huge promise: to make agriculture more precise, more biological, and less dependent on traditional chemicals. But here's the uncomfortable part. Just because something works in the lab doesn't mean it will survive in the field. A label that says “advanced biotechnology” doesn't mean the product is well-characterized. And just because something is “bio” doesn't automatically make it safe, efficient, or miraculous. In this episode of Agronauta, we talk with Oscar Fernández, the show's resident soil expert, and with Karina Gutiérrez Moreno, who is working at the forefront of biotechnology applied to agriculture. The conversation got interesting because we brought together two worlds that often don't talk enough: the real world, the one that doesn't forgive myths, and agricultural biotechnology, the one that promises to change the future… as long as it doesn't get out of hand due to marketing, incomplete regulations, and enthusiasm without a method.
