Fire destroys the Alexandra Gardens , Weymouth 1993
A devastating fire in 1993 completely destroys Weymouth's Alexandra gardens Amusements building. See children on the rides just a month before it burnt down. It was built as a theatre in 1924 on the site of Victorian pleasure gardens, and a bandstand, later a Kursaal. It was always a popular seafront attraction. Many famous names and acts performed in the theatre over the years A new Alexandra Gardens Amusement centre was later developed on the site.
