Romy Schneider — Najpiękniejsza aktorka XX wieku i jej tragiczny los
Romy Schneider—the life story of one of the greatest actresses of the twentieth century. A documentary that takes viewers through every stage of the Austrian artist's extraordinary and tragic fate, from her childhood in the shadow of Nazi Germany to her final night in Paris. Rosemarie Magdalena Albach-Retty was born in Vienna in 1938 into an acting family closely connected to the Third Reich elite. Her mother, Magda Schneider, was a star of German cinema, and her father, Wolf Albach-Retty, a descendant of a dynasty of Austrian stage actors. Romy's childhood was marked by loneliness, her parents' divorce, and a Catholic boarding school where no one visited her. At the age of fourteen, Romy made her screen debut, and just two years later, the trilogy about Empress Sissi made her an idol to millions of viewers across Europe. Walt Disney called her the most beautiful girl in the world, and the Germans nicknamed her the "Bride of the Nation." However, behind the façade of fairytale success lay a dark reality: financial exploitation at the hands of her stepfather, her mother's control, and the fear of being held hostage to a single image. Romy refused to participate in the fourth Sissi film, making a decision that changed her life forever. Meeting Alain Delon, fleeing to Paris, a metamorphosis under the tutelage of Coco Chanel and Luchino Visconti, a theatrical triumph on the Parisian stage, followed by a painful breakup, forty black roses, and a suicide attempt. A career resurgence thanks to the film Swimming Pool, a golden decade in French cinema, two César Awards, and the status of France's best actress. And simultaneously: the suicide of her ex-husband, another failed relationship, deepening depression, and addiction to alcohol and drugs. Romy Schneider's tragedy culminated in the death of her fourteen-year-old son, David, after which the actress found the strength to make her final film, La Passerby de Sans-Souci, a personal reckoning with her Nazi past. The story of this film's creation, shot without insurance and with the actress devastated by grief, is one of the most shocking pages in the history of European cinema. Romy Schneider died in Paris on May 29, 1982. She was forty-three years old. After fifty-eight films, she left behind neither an apartment, nor a car, nor any savings. She was buried in Boissy-sans-Avoir, next to her son.
