Nearly forty years later, one of them returned to tell the story behind the music they had created. Among Andy Winter's strongest memories was the small grocery beside the band's rehearsal room, where the owner let the four young musicians pay for their beers whenever they could. That quiet act of kindness still echoes through "Almost." Closing the first side of The Edge, "Almost" captures the musical identity Moonlight had forged through years of rehearsal before entering a professional studio. Moonlight were formed in 1975 in Turku, Finland, by school friends Kim Trapp (keyboards), Björn "Bob" Wasenius (drums, vocals), Paul Kanerva (bass) and Andy Winter (guitar, vocals). After beginning with Uriah Heep and Led Zeppelin covers, they soon focused entirely on original material. Kim Trapp became the band's musical driving force, shaping the sound heard in "Almost." The band ended in 1979, but its only album outlived its brief career. Their sound evolved through rehearsals in Bob's home, a basement and finally a rented thirty-square-metre shop beside the grocery whose owner quietly supported them. Decades later, Andy Winter remembered that quiet act of trust more vividly than the recording sessions themselves. English musician John McGlynn recognised their potential and helped them record The Edge in only a few days. Soon afterwards, McGlynn was seriously injured while trying to arrange new opportunities for Moonlight in England. The loss of the man who had opened their first professional doors halted the band's momentum, leaving The Edge as their only studio album and "Almost" as one of the finest documents of a group whose potential far exceeded the length of its career.
