【English CC Subtitles】 Located in the western region of Selangor, Malaysia, the Kuala Selangor area is home to two historic Chinese fishing villages: Pasir Penambang and Sungai Yu. Pasir Penambang, commonly referred to as "Ba Wei" (the tail of the village), is a fishing village with approximately 500 households and a population of around 6,000. Most of the villagers are of Hokkien descent, and the primary language spoken is Hokkien. Situated along the Selangor River, Pasir Penambang is renowned for its fresh, delicious, and affordable seafood, earning it the nickname "Seafood Paradise." The village is also known for producing local specialties such as shrimp crackers. Nearby Sungai Yu, also called "Ba Tou" (the head of the village), has a history dating back to 1888. Its name originates from a tributary of the Selangor River, which is shaped like a "U," hence the Malay name "Sungai Yu." In the 1970s, Sungai Yu gained fame as the largest supplier of fresh cockles in the country due to its coastal terrain and high-quality cockle cultivation, earning it the title of "Cockle Capital." However, in recent years, the cockle industry has declined due to environmental changes. Today, Sungai Yu has around 120 households, and the villagers are often seen drying salted fish, shrimp crackers, and dried shrimp in their courtyards. Due to the close proximity of the two villages, their culinary cultures and lifestyles are closely intertwined, and outsiders often confuse Pasir Penambang with Sungai Yu. In recent years, with the rise of attractions such as "Sky Mirror," "Blue Tears," "Eagle Feeding," and the Firefly Park, one of the world’s eight natural wonders, both Pasir Penambang and Sungai Yu have become popular tourist destinations, drawing visitors with their vibrant cultural and culinary offerings.
