Greene and Greene Trickery on the Multi Router

This is one of the things I love about woodworking – there’s always stuff to figure out. In this case the problem is how to hold a parallelogram shaped part in the Multi Router in order to route a ramped indentation. The answer is really not that difficult (it’s still fun to go through the exercise though). First, the face of the parallelogram needs to be tilted up so its parallel to the MultiRouter’s vertical table. This is accomplished with a registration block that compliments the angle of the parallelogram to add up to 90°. In other words, take the angle of the parallelogram and subtract that number from 90 and that’s your angle for the registration block. Next a parallel clamping surface is needed. This is easy - it’s the same angle as the registration block but this piece has a hook attached to it to wrap around the stock and prevent it from sliding off. But wait, there’s more! The leg stock must be angled in order to create the ramping effect. On the Multi Router there is a little metal lip that slides up to register stock flush with the edge of the table. Against this lip a tapered piece is placed. The amount of taper varies depending on the length of the ramping needed. It’s difficult to see the taper in the video - it’s rather gradual. Lastly to lock everything in place a piece of ¼” material is pushed up against the angled registration block and tapered (ramping) piece and held down with clamps. I did not cover setting up the Multi Router’s stops to position the route. For more on that see my video titled “ Multi Router Trickery”    • Multi Router Trickery
