Santana is back, recapturing the essence of one of Spain's most historic automotive brands. At AutoFM, we had the opportunity to experience the new Santana Cajal firsthand, a true off-roader developed on the BAIC BJ40 platform. It prioritizes robustness, technology, and off-road capabilities that are increasingly rare in the market. We also conducted an exclusive interview with Eduardo Blanco, CEO of Santana, who explained the brand's present and future. During our test drive, we discovered a vehicle designed for truly venturing off-road. The Santana Cajal is equipped with a 2.0-liter turbodiesel engine featuring Cummins technology, producing 163 hp and 390 Nm of torque, an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission, low-range gearing, front and rear differential locks, and a robust ladder frame chassis. This design clearly sets it apart from most current SUVs. We also reviewed all the details of its equipment and its impressive off-road capabilities: 22 centimeters of ground clearance, approach and departure angles of 37 and 31 degrees, a wading depth of 80 centimeters, a towing capacity of up to 2,500 kilos, and an 85-liter fuel tank.
