Ohh steer clear of dating websites I hear you cry, they’re just full of Scammers. I’d been staying in Manila for a month. Had had no joy with the ladeez. Sure it must be annoying at times for girls on the street to be approached by aging pensioners wanting to engage with them, but to actually brush me away with a flick of the wrist was humiliating. Sure, some have been less accommodating than others, but at least have exchanged a few words such as “Naff off Grandpa” rather than blanking me outright. You have to have clear motives for joining the websites now. Everything is so Black & White now. You will be asked What are your Intentions here? What are you looking for? In the olden days of internet dating it was quite obvious what you were doing on that app. Nowadays there are too many different variables on offer. A lot of Girls say Date to Marry who are barely out of High School. Many will say I want Serious only. But they’re hardly gonna say I just wanna swing from the chandeliers and never see you again , as that would be considered unethical. Lots of sugar babes wanting sugar daddies to pay their way through `college. How much young lady? 25k a month. That’s more than my monthly rent. Lots of girls wanting FUN! Wow! That sounds great, you think. But FUN comes at a cost. Often filipinas will say they’re Single here, meaning not married yet, even thou they’re with someone. When I moved to Manila I saw that Diane who I'd met in Davao was here, so messaged her suggesting we met up. Said she worked at a KTV bar and I could meet her there. When I suggested we met outside work, she said she didn’t have time and was too busy. Ha! Another girl on Bumble asked if I wanted to go and drink with her. I carried on the conversation ignoring that question , to which she’d repeatedly say The question is Are you coming or not? To which I responded the question is Do you just match with guys on Bumble to go to your lounge. She responded saying You don’t have to be rude. Which I wasn’t. I tried to respond but she’d already blocked me. Ha! I’ve matched with many girls working in KTV bars. I tell them early on that I’ll only meet them outside of work. They continue messaging me for a couple of days as if this is not their only intention and then stop when they realise they’re wasting their time with me. Other girls on Bumble will say Not active here, message me on Insta. When the whole point of Bumble is for females to take the lead and message you first. So you go to their Insta profile and ask them to allow you access into their hallowed world. Which I’m still waiting for. What DO I want? Before I came to the Philippines I wanted a steady relationship. Over the past 3 years of living in the country I’ve been able to study how filipinas operate. I also watched an expat Christian Vloggers being interviewed who said it took him 9 years before he found the right woman. I wanted to ask him why it took so long, but I’m beginning to understand why now. So I don’t think I want permanency anymore unless Jennifer Lopez rocks up on my doorstep. But sitting on the fence doesn’t get you very far. Saying well, er I wanna go on a date you and take you home an then consider whether to take things further probably won’t get you any dates. Although it seems to work for my Spanish friend who often criticises me when I say the average filipina lacks intelligence and I need to dumb down when communicating with them.
