Poinsettia A tropical evergreen shrub Primarily admired for its red (and sometimes white, pink, and other) flower bracts, it is also called a Christmas tree in Korea. It is often decorated in churches during Christmas, from October to December. It is popular because it can be enjoyed for a long period, from winter to the following spring. The optimal temperature for growth is 15-25°C. If the temperature drops below 5°C, the lower leaves often turn yellow. (If repeated, the leaves fall off, leaving only the flower bracts.) Propagation is by cuttings. Around June or July, cut the upper part of the stem to 6-7cm, wipe off the latex, and plant the cuttings. Use a stone or cuttings potting soil.
