GM Truck and SUV 1988-1999 Thermostat Sticking (Chevy And GMC)
This is another one of those common issues that is an easy fix but if you take it somewhere they will charge you a few hundred bucks or more to do. Even with buying coolant I am into this under 25 bucks easy. What happens is when you first start driving the temp guage will go up past where it normally goes and then finally come back down. When I start to get worried is when it goes over the 210 mark. Usually after this happens the thermostat is able to open and close as needed. Sometimes I have sound that it will not open at all and then you end up with a coolant mess under the hood and the potential for doing damage to the engine.
