If You Have Diabetes, Drink Water at These 5 Times — Your Blood Sugar May Thank You
If you have diabetes, you probably already know how much there is to keep track of. Your meals. Your medications. Your blood sugar readings. Your exercise. And sometimes it can feel like one more health rule is the last thing you need. But there is one simple thing many people don't think much about: water. I've had many conversations with people who carefully watch what they eat and take their medications exactly as prescribed, yet never really think about how hydration fits into their day. And the question isn't always, "How much water should I drink?" Sometimes the better question is, "When am I actually drinking it?" In today's video, I want to walk you through five moments when paying attention to hydration may be helpful if you're managing diabetes. We'll talk about the morning, meals, physical activity, stressful moments, and the evening. I'll also explain why drinking more water isn't always better, why water isn't a quick way to lower a high blood sugar reading, and why people with kidney problems, heart failure, dialysis, or certain medications need to be more careful with general hydration advice. The most important thing I want you to remember is that you don't have to do everything perfectly. Managing diabetes is already a lot. A small habit that you can actually maintain is often more useful than a complicated plan that lasts only a few days. And please don't compare your fluid needs to someone else's. Your age, medications, kidney function, heart health, activity level, and other health conditions can all make a difference. Have you ever noticed that your blood sugar seems different on days when you drink less water? I'd genuinely like to hear about your experience in the comments. If you find these conversations helpful, you’re welcome to subscribe and join me for more practical discussions about diabetes, healthy aging, nutrition, sleep, mobility, and staying independent as we get older.
