In episode one of “We Belong to The Land,” we arrive in Amman, a city where belonging is constantly rewritten through movement, memory and survival. This episode explores how repeated waves of migration from Palestine, Iraq and Syria have shaped the city’s identity, layering histories into its streets, homes and public spaces. We observe how the scarcity of water and energy has influenced everyday life and design. Amid these shifting conditions, storytelling becomes a way of preserving memory and making sense of a city that is always in flux. “Each group that comes here brings their own stories, their own habits and aesthetics. And that will always influence the built environment and how we inhabit and shape space, eventually impacting the overall urban fabric of the city,” says architect Deema Deeb.
