What was originally envisioned as an enhanced rerelease of SMT IV eventually mutated into something much more ambitious. Despite Apocalypse reusing a lot of assets from IV, it’s its own beast entirely as it features all-new characters, a new story, updated mechanics, and much more. The game was released in February of 2016 in Japan and in September for us western players. Critically speaking, Apocalypse was received rather. Fan reaction, however, was a different story. There’s a lot of people that love this game to death, and just as many that cite it as one of the worst megaten titles. So for today’s video, we’re going to take a deep dive into Apocalypse to find out why it has such a mixed reception amongst fans.
