Championship Bowling - Bluth-Golembiewski
Championship Bowling was a syndicated series that aired from around the mid 1950s until sometime in the 1970s. The show had a few different hosts, but the one that held down that position the longest was Fred Wolf, a sportscaster from Detroit. Each week's telecast featured a three-game match between two pros, with the winner advancing in a bracketed competition until it got down to the semi-finals, when total pinfall for six games (spread over multiple telecasts) would allow players to advance to the finals. Each bracketed competition comprised a "tournament," which would take up a season's worth of telecasts. Before ABC's Pro Bowlers Tour came along, this syndicated series was THE national pro bowling telecast that was considered "must-see TV" for bowling aficianados. This episode pitted Ray Bluth against Billy Golembiewski (aka "Billy G") in the season's final semi-final match. What you see here is the first game in the three-game series (and actually, both of these players would advance to the finals because the third player in the semi-finals had posted a paltry total that both these players would pass in their semi-final match). Filmed at Orchard Park Bowl in Skokie, IL. Year unknown. Fred Wolf served as the lone announcer. There was no color analyst.
