Ever since Mikasa has joined, she has felt a little closer to the Corporal but she'd never show it. Petra had concerns adding a new young member to the group since they carry out dangerous missions. Mikasa has overheard their conversations once and couldn't help but feel bothered by their close relationship. Being unaware of her feelings, she continues to keep a close eye to protect Levi. One day, a mission was carried out but no one knew it'd turn out badly. Petra lost her life and Levi got injured. Despite the outcome, Levi fought bravely back. Mikasa can see the deep sorrow in her Corporal's eyes and how he fought to avenge her. After getting over the shock of Petra's death, Mikasa snapped out of her haze to help fight the titan swearing revenge for Levi's sorrow. After the mission, Mikasa accompanied Levi to Petra's grave with no body to console him. Petra's spirit appears and encourages Levi to live on.
