Snagging Reds in Seward Alaska - How to Catch your Limit!
We are in Seward Alaska snagging reds! We come down here every year for an experience like no other. Snagging fish is one of the funnest ways to fish. The reds are coming in pretty thick right now. Reds are also known as Sockeye Salmon. The salmon are in the salt water making their way to the river and up to the lake to spawn. This is an easy way to catch salmon in a short amount of time. This technique (snagging) is not really your finesse type fishing technique, it’s exactly as it sounds - SNAGGING - ripping through the ocean waters in hope to catch a fish and stop it in its tracks. Step 1 Check fishing regulations here: http://www.adfg.alaska.gov/%3Fadfg%3D... Make sure you know when the season has officially opened and what the limit is for that specific day. The limits can change throughout the season to 3 fish per person per day, 6 fish, or 12 fish per person per day, which is why is SO important for you to read the regs before heading out on your trip Step 2 Make sure you have the right gear and the right hook! Gear to use: Hook: 8/0 SnaggingHook Pole: 6.5-7 ft medium or medium- heavy Spinning Rod Reel: Large Spinning Reel with a 3 or 4 bearing 5 - 1 ratio Line: 20 -30 lb test mono or fluorocarbon Waders: Hip or full waders will work Step 3 Type of casting - Basically you are casting as far as you can, reeling in lose line to keep the tension, and quickly jerking back towards your side, then reeling in again, and jerking back again (watch video for better explanation and example!) Step 4 Once Hooked - keep your line tight, rod tip up, and start walking your catch back to the shore. You will see that the fish are not far from the shore, so it’s pretty easy to land them. Step 5 HAVE FUN!! If you liked this How To, Like & Subscribe us for more! We have several trips planned this year and would love to share those with you.
