Or is everyone influenced in some way by their favorite artists, styles, and visual media? Master studies/copies are a wonderful way to improve your art skills while taking some pressure off yourself when you still want to practice art! I do oil paint and watercolor paint master studies often to spark creativity and learn how my favorite painters made their artworks. Learning art skills through repetition and experience are more memorable and fun than simply studying them in a book. I completed a master copy of Degas’ “The Absinthe Drinker.” It was a fun painting to dissect; full of background elements, still life objects, and multiple figures. I especially love how he used shadows to tell more of the story. I’m hoping to incorporate all the lessons I learned from this study into future works of my own one day!
