"Act Of War": Pakistan's Ishaq Dar Warns India Over Indus Waters Treaty, Threatens Consequences

Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar issued a sharp warning to India over the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT), saying any attempt to deprive Pakistan of its allocated water would have serious consequences for regional peace and security. Speaking at the International Seminar on the Indus Waters Treaty at Islamabad's Jinnah Convention Centre, Dar insisted that the treaty remains legally binding and cannot be unilaterally suspended or terminated. Referring to Pakistan's National Security Committee decision following the 2025 Pahalgam attack, Dar reiterated that any diversion, interruption or reduction of Pakistan's water rights under the Indus Waters Treaty would be treated as an "act of war." He also accused India of violating international law and urged New Delhi to resolve disputes through dialogue and treaty mechanisms.
