Stop Hanging Shed Doors. Do This Instead
10x12 Build Plan: https://geni.us/cpBPqzM Door Hardware Used: https://geni.us/k5R3 10x12 Project Pack: https://geni.us/cpBPqzM Shed doors are the #1 thing DIY builders stress about — and for good reason. Traditional shed door builds mean hanging heavy doors, shimming gaps, and hoping they don't sag six months later. We took a completely different approach. In this video, we show you how we build double shed doors directly into the wall panel using LP SmartSide and PVC trim — no separate door frame required. The doors are finished, trimmed, and hardware is installed before the wall even goes up. When it's time to stand the wall, you just cut the doors free and they swing open perfectly. This is the same door design and process used in our Premium Build Plans for the 10x12 Classic Shed and other builds in the Everyday Shed lineup. What we cover in this video: 0:00 — Why we build shed doors differently 0:40 — Laying out PVC trim on LP SmartSide panels 2:15 — Drilling pilot holes and marking cut lines 3:20 — Cutting the door opening with a circular saw (depth settings) 4:19 — Why complete build plans save you thousands on a DIY shed 5:13 — Securing PVC trim permanently with washer head screws 5:55 — Positioning and squaring door panels on the front wall 7:31 — What's inside our Double Shed Door Kit 8:40 — Installing T-hinges (screw lengths and placement tips) 10:30 — Completing the wall with LP SmartSide and caulking 11:45 — Standing up the front wall 12:20 — Final cuts to release the doors 12:50 — Installing jack studs and the door header 13:30 — Installing barrel bolts and T-handle lock 14:13 — The finished product Why this method works: Building the doors flat on the ground eliminates the alignment headaches that come with traditional door hanging. The PVC trim acts as the door structure — no separate wood frame needed. The LP SmartSide overlap feature creates a natural door stop between your left and right panels. And because the hinges mount on top of horizontal PVC trim members that span to the wall framing, the weight transfers into the studs, reducing sag over time. This design is part of our 10x12 Classic Shed build. If you want to see the complete build from ground prep to roofing, check out the full series on our channel.
