How Brachiosaurus Might Have Evolved, Simulated in SPORE

What happens when evolution favors height over speed? In this video, I used SPORE gameplay to explore the evolutionary rise of the Brachiosaurus — tracing how natural selection transformed small, agile generalists into the most towering giants of the Jurassic. This is not a story of predation, but of massive-scale adaptation where vertical reach became the ultimate survival strategy. THE EDSA APPROACH This video was created using the EDSA framework to present evolution in a clear and engaging way: EDUCATION: Based on sauropodomorph fossils and morphological transitions. DOCUMENTARY: Structured as a chronological timeline of herbivore gigantism. SCIENCE: Focused on pillar-limb biomechanics, neck leverage, and caloric efficiency. ART: Visualized using the SPORE(TM) engine to illustrate the shift from bipedal to quadrupedal forms. THE BRACHIOSAUR EVOLUTIONARY ROADMAP I. THE BIPEDAL BEGINNING Eoraptor (231 MYA) Adaptation: Small bipedal body, lightweight skeleton, generalist diet. Narrative: "Eoraptor was not a giant. It was a starting point — a simple dinosaur body ready to specialize." Plateosaurus (214 MYA) Adaptation: Early sauropodomorph, long neck, strong hind legs. Narrative: "Plateosaurus began reaching higher. Size increased, necks stretched, and plants became the primary fuel." II. THE SHIFT TO SCALE Massospondylus (200 MYA) Adaptation: Longer neck, smaller head, early quadrupedal tendency. Narrative: "Balance shifted forward. The body prepared for a future where height meant survival." Vulcanodon (185 MYA) Adaptation: Early true sauropod, fully quadrupedal, thick limb bones. Narrative: "Speed was abandoned. Strength took its place as the earth began to shake beneath its steps." III. THE MASTERS OF THE CANOPY Giraffatitan (150 MYA) Adaptation: Extremely long front legs, vertical neck, high browsing specialist. Narrative: "Height became dominance. Forests were no longer obstacles — they were feeding platforms." Brachiosaurus (144 MYA) Adaptation: Massive body, long neck held upright, pillar-like limbs. Narrative: "Brachiosaurus was the final form. Not built to fight — but to outgrow the world around it." DISCLAIMER & CREDITS SCIENTIFIC ACCURACY All species featured are supported by the fossil record. Evolutionary transitions illustrate the "Sauropodomorph to Sauropod" pipeline based on established paleontological consensus regarding weight distribution and bipedal-to-quadrupedal shifts. The Brachiosaurus did not just reach the canopy. It outpaced time through sheer, unshakeable scale.
