Its first car was the famous Auto Union, which was known in Argentina and was presented at the 1953 Frankfurt Motor Show as the DKW Sonderklasse. Production began a year later under the name DKW 3=6, and it arrived in Argentina in 1960. In 1959, Industria Automotriz Santa Fe S.A. was established in the province of Santa Fe, where the Auto Union, or DKW as it was also known here, was manufactured. However, in the early years, only the assembly of parts imported from Germany was carried out, until 1965 when production began using locally sourced components. Although many versions of the Auto Union, such as the convertible, were never seen in Argentina, the Santa Fe plant produced several versions: the front-engine pickup, the AU 1000 S Fisore (Julio Sosal, the "Varon del Tango," was killed in an accident in one of these), the AU 1000 S, and the AU station wagon. Taking these four versions into account, from 1959 until 1969, when production of this model ceased, 32,628 units were manufactured. To speak of the DKW engine is to speak of an example of simplicity, robustness, reliability, and economy. This car had a 1,000 cc, three-cylinder, two-stroke engine (with which it reached 135 km/h) that consisted of only seven moving parts: three pistons, three connecting rods, and a crankshaft.
